At least 10 die as boat capsizes in Port Harcourt

At least 10 persons have been confirmed dead after a boat carrying 35 people capsized in the early hours of today August 29th in a river in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr Onimode Bandele said rescue efforts are still ongoing in the search of more people. “We can confirm that 10 persons died early today when a Port Harcourt-bound passenger boat sank. Rescue efforts are ongoing and the agency is already working with other bodies and security agencies in the rescue efforts.” he said Chairman of Bonny local government council, Adonye Wilcox, said "Information available indicates that the boat hit an object on the way and sank. Local divers have rescued 17 persons, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps, while 10 persons died as a result of the accident” he said.

BH foreign negotiator names Alimodu Sheriff as Boko Haram sponsor

In a recent interview with Arise News TV, Australian hostage negotiator, Stephen Davis, who was hired by the Nigerian government some months back to help negotiate with Boko Haram members to facilitate the release of abducted Chibok girls, mentioned the name of former Borno state Governor, Alimodu Sheriff as a sponsor of the terrorist group, Boko Haram. He also said that an unnamed past Chief of Army Staff who was sacked by Pres. Jonathan was also a sponsor of the group. In the video released yesterday, Davis was very quick to mention the names of the alleged sponsors. "The first thing to do.. go and arrest former Governor, Sheriff. Former Borno Governor Sheriff who has been funding this for years. He hooks these guys up. He is so frightened that he has switched party to the ruling PDP in the hope that this would give him protection. That guy has really got to go and you know he is enormously corrupt." Continue... Nigerians living in Washington DC on May 3, 2014, Saturday staged a solidarity rally to protest the a bduction of hundreds of GGSS Chibok female students in Borno. Hundreds of attendees were carrying various placards with such inscriptions as "Bring Back Our Future", "Nigeria, Hear Your People Crying", "Stop Boko Haram", "No More Killings", "Enough Is Enough", "Stop Corruption", "Find #234" and many more. The protesters heard some testimonies, prayed, sang songs to denounce violence, bring peace and listened to the Nigerian national anthem as a part of the event. The repeated rally is scheduled for May 6, 2014, Tuesday, 10:00am – 1:00pm, local time, near the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington DC.
