New York, United States - Some 250 demonstrants gathered on Saturday in the Union Square Park to draw attention to the case of over 200 abducted Nigerian female students . It will be recalled that on April 14, Boko Haram insurgents raided the town of Chibok in Borno State and abducted from 234 to 276 secondary school girls. The event attracted many Nigerian expatriates, as well as a number of U.S. citizens. The participants travelled from as far as Boston to attend. Some demonstrants were wearing traditional Nigerian attire and headwraps. They were chanting and praying for the safe return of the girls and pledged support to their families. The event, according to Sahara Reporters, was organized by a coalition of local groups that included Applause Africa and Chibok Girls . Mrs. Bola Obasanjo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, wife of Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun on Monday joined hundreds of women in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital, to protest the abduction of over 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno State.   Suspected Boko Haram sect members attacked Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, in the night of April 14, 2014, Monday. According to DailyPost, a soldier and a police officer were killed, Governmental Girls’ Secondary School and the Chibok Local Government secretariat were burnt. The militants have also razed about 100 homes because some of the residents initially resisted them. BBC Hausa reported that about 200 GGSS female students may have been kidnapped by Boko Haram fighters, while sources of Saharareporters confirmed the abduction of 103 girls. The gunmen, who set the college building ablze, ordered the hostel's teenage residents onto four lorries. The mass abduction lasted between 9pm and 3am. A Nigerian-American artiste, producer and performer, Davido, won the ‘Best African Artiste of the Year’ award at the 15th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). Skelewu crooner ousted such strong competitors as P-Square, KCEE, Wizkid, Flavour and South African duo Mafikizolo to grab the award on May 3, 2014, Saturday. According to organizers, this prize is presented to the “non-Ghanaian musicians whose music crossed borders and made the most impact in Ghana and on the continent at large during the year under review” .
